The winner of Latin America’s 50 Best Restaurants 2016, sponsored by S.Pellegrino and Acqua Panna, has been announced as Central restaurant in Lima, Peru. The winner, chef Virgilio Martinez, who took the title for the third consecutive year, said that “Latin America is united and unique” as he received the award.
In second place was Nikkei restaurant, Maido and chef Mitsuharu Tsumura, also in Peru. Third was awarded to Alex Atala’s D.O.M restaurant in Brazil and fourth spot went to Rodolfo Guzman and his Borago restaurant in Chile. Number five was Pujol in Mexico which picked up with the 'Art of Hospitality' extra award.
The 'Lifetime Achievement' award went to Claude Troigros. The 'One to Watch' award was handed to Francisco Ruano and Latin America’s Best Female Chef award was given to Kamilla Seidler. Latin America’s Best Pastry Chef was Gustavo Saez and the 'Chef’s Choice' award, picked by those on the list, was Guillermo González Beristáin.
