The World's 50 Best Restaurants 2022 winners announced

Geranium restaurant in Copenhagen, Denmark by Chef Rasmus Kofoed was awarded the coveted top spot in The World’s 50 Best Restaurants 2022, the celebration of global gastronomy sponsored by S.Pellegrino and Acqua Panna, now in its 20th edition.

The winners were announced on Monday 18th July at an event hosted by Hollywood icon Stanley Tucci in London's historic Old Billingsgate market, and live-streamed on 50 Best social media channels.

After accepting the award, Chef Kofoed said "A special thanks goes out to the most loyal and amazing team back in Copenhagen, to my dear wife who is attending for the first time. For me, this recognition is not about being better than another, it’s a celebration of all of us."

Second and third prizes went to Central in Lima by Chefs Virgilio Martinez and Pía Leon and Disfrutar in Barcelona by Chefs Oriol Castro, Eduard Xatruch and Mateu Casañas.

 Additional Awards

Further awards were announced in advance of the event. Champions of Change, sponsored by S.Pellegrino and Acqua Panna, celebrated local heroes of hospitality who are harnessing the power of gastronomy to create positive change in their communities. This year's winners were Rwandan educationalist and founder of Chefs in Africa Dieuveil Malonga, London-based creators of #CookForUkraine Olia Hercules and Alissa Timoshkina, and inspiring activist Koh Seng Choon, founder of Dignity Kitchen in Singapore and Hong Kong.

Meanwhile, Leonor Espinosa from Leo restaurant in Bogotá took the title of The World's Best Female Chef 2022, the Icon Award went to Kenyan humanitarian Wawira Njiru, and the One To Watch award was won by Marseille's AM par Alexandre Mazzia, a rising star who is also a member of the French jury for the S.Pellegrino Young Chef Academy Competition 2022-23.
