As with previous years, S.Pellegrino took an active part in Milan Design Week. This year the brand partnered with a unique international contest aimed at highlighting innovative design.

Ro Plastic Prize was the name of this international award based on an idea developed by Rossana Orlandi, an iconic figure in the design world, revered for her in-depth knowledge of the industry.

This international and intergenerational award was presented on 6 April at the Leonardo da Vinci National Museum of Science and Technology in Milan. It launched an authentic and unprecedented challenge to the entire design community, its students and great artists: to imagine a new growth model in which plastic is a resource rather than a threat to the environment.

Contestants were also invited to use their creativity to bring plastic materials back to life, to put the accent on ethics and aesthetics in order to shape projects endowed with a design content of excellence.

What better partner for Ro Plastic Prize than S.Pellegrino, a constant presence at the Fuorisalone who, year after year, is an increasingly active promoter of design projects carried out in collaboration with artists and creative talents from all over the world.

Last year, S.Pellegrino engaged young designers for “The Journey of Water”. A collaboration with architect Giulio Cappellini, the project invited the designers Neri&Hu, Steven Haulenbeek and Philippe Nigro to restyle the historical label in a new dimension which effectively recounted the journey of water.

This year, Giulio Cappellini himself performed the function of art director for the Ro Plastic Prize as well as sitting on the international jury appointed to select the winners. Other professional figures such as Marva Griffin Wilshire, founder and curator of the SaloneSatellite, was also amongst the esteemed jury. Three awards, each worth 10,000 euros were assigned on the 10th of April when the events of the Milan Design Week Fuorisalone were in full swing.

In the category titled Conscious Innovation Project, the award went to MatejJansky, a young designer from Prague, the Best Design award was assigned to German-born Alexander Schul, while Reform Studio from Cairo received the Home Textiles award.

The Ro Plastic Prize received over one hundred entries submitted by 50 different countries, from which the best projects selected expressed talent and innovative creativity. Milan Design Week takes place every year in April, and is one of the most important furniture and design fairs in the world.

S.Pellegrino is always a proud supporter of the arts and design, collaborating with the most innovative minds in the industry all around the globe.
