Asia's 50 Best Restaurants 2022 ranking announced

Den, in Tokyo, Japan, by Zaiyu Hasegawa earned first place in the 2022 edition of Asia’s 50 Best Restaurants, sponsored for the 10th consecutive year by S.Pellegrino and Acqua Panna. In 2022 the restaurant becomes the first Japanese restaurant since 2013 to be bestowed The Best Restaurant in Asia title.
The new ranking, a celebration of the richness of the region's gastronomic culture, was announced during simultaneous live events in Bangkok, Hong Kong and Tokyo on 29th March 2022. The announcement was broadcast on the Asia's 50 Best Restaurants Facebook page and 50 Best Restaurants TV YouTube channel.
The second and third placed restaurants were Sorn in Bangkok, Thailand, by Supaksorn Jongsiri and Florilège in Tokyo, Japan, by Hiroyasu Kawate respectively.
These were complemented by a series of additional awards announced prior to the event.
For example, the title of Asia’s Best Female Chef was awarded to Japanese chef Natsuko Shoji of Été in Tokyo, an exclusive six-seat restaurant where Shoji serves her guests personally.
The prestigious Icon Award - Asia, on the other hand, went to South Korean nun Jeong Kwan, whose exquisite vegetable recipes have inspired some of the world’s most influential chefs.
Meanwhile the coveted American Express One to Watch Award was won by Eat and Cook in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, a success story born out of adversity when chefs Lee Zhe Xi and Soh Yong Zhi lost their respective jobs as hotel chefs and decided to pursue this passion project.
