As summer approaches, we suddenly long to work on our vegetable gardens and orchards but flowers and herbal plants are the first to bloom at the beginning of the season. Fruits and vegetables ripe later in the summer.
What can we do with flowers? Saffron notwithstanding, dandelions, watercress and fresh violets can make delicious salad components, infused lavender can add flavor to panna cotta, custard or macaroons; and rose petals are perfect to make jams, and of course the famous Italian liquor called Rosolio.
Enjoy the moment and taste an acacia and elderberry flower fritter. Prepare a light batter, dip the flowers and deep-fry them right away. Sprinkle with powdered sugar, and open a bottle of S.Pellegrino sparkling water to enjoy the moment.
